Death By Blog: The Look-See vs The Babadook

“No one ever told me that grief felt so much like fear.” - CS Lewis

Welcome to DBB

What happens when you love something, well you of course..love it. Everyone loves something or someone, and even consider them the closest to family than anything. But what happens when you lose it, when you lose something you love, and all you can feel is grief..and guilt. You hang on to this grief, you feel like it's the only way it'll help you recover from this awful loss. But as we all know, hanging on to this grief will cause you to hurt yourself and the things around you, it will cause you to lose yourself. The key to accepting loss is to not let Grief take over and corrupt you. These beings represent those emotions, these beings may prove that you can't let these emotions harm yourself and others, these beings are..

The Look-See: the Beast who will take a piece if you don't release.

The Babadook: the Boogeyman straight from your nightmares.

You know me, FMT

And it's time to see which Mental Monster has the best Arsenal, Abilities and Actions to find out who will be sentenced to Death By Blog

Before We Begin

Now first of all a quick TW:

This blog contains topics about Family Death, Grieving, Depression, Abuse, Suicide and taking your trauma out on people around you. These are very real things so many people have had to deal with, me included, and it is a very serious issue. Always remember to not let these emotions control your actions, and control how you respond to your grief. There are always people who will be there to talk about these kinds of things and help you and support you, whether it be friends, family members or just people you can trust. I'm even here for you guys! ❤️

Now for the characters themselves, I will be using all of The Look-See’s media through Crypt TV. This will of course include the show itself, the Lord about the universe, other stories about the Look-See and his battles against other Crypt TV monsters. I however will not use crossover content like Dead By Daylight or other content similar to that. I'm only using the original content from the Look-See.

Babadook on the other hand is very easy to research. He has one movie, a book, a short film made by the same director of the Babadook! So yes these guys will be easy to look through, which means this won't be hard to figure out..

Background

The Look-See

“If you yourself cannot release, it will come and take a piece."

There was a child, a normal child with a normal family living a normal life. That was until a terrible incident that caused his life to be taken, and it had a terrible effect on his family. But after a demonic ritual that would create monsters in this world was used to turn this child into something else…something monstrous. He would become…the Look-See. After his family would value their objects over his own life, he would become an Entity that would take a piece of those who wouldn't release from their grief. The Look-See would kill criminals, his mother and father, and mostly the rest of his family. He would be a myth, a haunted creature that'd murder many people throughout the years, and he'd take the lives of those who couldn't let go of their grief. But for those who'd survive these attacks and fight back against the Look-See would become one of his helpers, they would help the Look-See accomplish his goal, and if they or anyone else gets in the way of the Look-See.. he will take a piece of them as well. In the end, the Look-See’s murder spree isn't justified, you simply can't kill people because they can't move on from their Grief, but that's what these emotions can do to you. They destroy you and tear you apart and make you vulnerable to even more harm, and as the Look-See shows…possibly even death. But if you stand up to it, fight back, and don't let yourself be harmed by it and stand strong, then maybe..just maybe…it will Spare you. And maybe…just maybe….the Look-See will spare you too…

The Babadook

"Babadook..dook..dook..”

Death knocks on the doors of all those who seek it, sometimes it's probable, sometimes it's warranted, and sometimes it's something nobody can predict. That's what happened to Amelia Vanek whenever she lost her husband in a car accident on the way to the hospital to give birth to her son. That was the day her life would forever change, she'd be consumed by constant Trauma and Grief. She'd become unable to come to terms with this loss which would not only affect her, but also her son. But when she finds a book that warns her of the danger that can come with these responses, she finds herself having to deal with something else…something called the Babadook; a being spawned by her grief and depression. She would go through all 5 stages of Grief, she would deny the existence of the Babadook, and even be in denial of her own son and his actions. She would become constantly Angry with her son, and only bash him and even try to harm him because of his delusions. She'd become completely depressed, ignoring all her motherly responsibilities and becoming haunted by the Babadook. After finally seeing that the Babadook is truly taking a toll on her, she'd Bargain anything for her life to be back, even risking her son's life. She'd be consumed by the Babadook…which caused to do disgusting things like killing her dog, trying to kill her son, and possibly even taking her own life. However she'd overcome the Babadook, protect her son, and Finally accept that her husband is gone, and that she would have to live with this grief, and after ridding him away to the basement, she'd find a way to live with the Babadook. Because in the end, you can't get rid of Grief, but you can live with it…all it takes is healthy habits, acceptance, and simply finding ways to enjoy life at its best…

Skill and Experience

The Look-See

The Look-See has been around for many years, mostly since the 1930s. Going from town to town murdering those who can't let go of their grief, especially adults. Even murderers can't escape from the claws of the Look-See. He can battle against other monsters like Mordeo, Telos, and the Soot; all other powerful monsters. He even challenged the Sunny Family Cult, a whole family full of murderers. The Look-See will of course go after anyone who chooses to not release, but if anyone were to get in his way..they would get a taste of his bloodthirst as well.

The Babadook

The Babadook is an entity based on Grief itself, he'll stay with you for years and years as long as you are experiencing grief. He's best known for his ability to manipulate those experiencing these emotions. He can trick you into doing horrible things, emotionally manipulate you to giving something up with your trauma, and of course make you bargain. As long as he's in your head, he knows everything about you, and will use it to destroy you. Don't let the Babadook trick you into believing that destroying everything will fix everything..

Arsenal

The Look-See

Pocket Watch

While this may just seem like a normal Locket, it has a certain value to the Look-See. This locket isn't just fashionable, it can even summon a second Look-See.

Pages

Like any Slenderman Ripoff, The Look-See has pages with the iconic words on them in order to warn those who don't let go to be afraid of what could happen.

The Babadook

Babadook Book

Hehe..say that 5 times. Anyways once you have gone through the stages of denial and letting your Grief leak out, you will find yourself with a certain book..with a certain character.. warning you of the potential future your Grief can cause..

Abilities

The Look-See

Crypt Physiology

The Look-See is a very mysterious and powerful being, and powerful beings in this world can be very different from humans. The Look-See himself comes with very sharp nails that can pierce through any human, and razor sharp teeth to tear through flesh. He cannot age, nor sustain physical damage by normal weapons. The Look-See is a very powerful being in this world. His nature gives him some sort of Clairvoyance, he can constantly sense who is grieving and who does not have to release.

Teleportation

Oh hey, nothing's there…oh there he is! Hi!!

Illusion Creation

The Look-See can create illusions that can trick you into believing a loved one is still here with you.

Immortality

The Look-See is effectively an ageless immortal being, he's been alive even since an older, less modern era.

Body Control

The Look-See can twist his body in many ways, open his mouth to give something to his victims, and even twist it's whole body. It could even widen its mouth and eat its victim whole.

Telekinesis

The Look-See was able to instantly make a pearl necklace float into the air (some people might be into that.) This explains why there's so many weird kills like being able to hoist people up in the Air.

Puppetry

The Look-See can control corpses and the bodies of things he's already killed, like the corpse of this woman here.

The Babadook

Mental Physiology

As we know, the Babadook manifests in your mental space once you let your grief start affecting you. What you may not know, is that if he desires to, he can affect things in the real world as well. Basically switching between a creature only in your head, to a creature that can physically manifest and try to kill you. But he won't just affect you, as some of us know our grief can affect the people closest to us, which is why the Babadook can affect those who are affected by your actions.

Illusion Creation

The Babadook can use your grief and hauntings against you, whether it's making you see him, or making you see stuff that's not actually there, or making the thing you're grieving appear before your eyes.

Dream Manipulation

Not even your dreams are safe from the Babadook, he can enter your dreams and make you think of what he'll do to you if you don't face your grief.

Immersion

The Babadook won't every leave you, even when you're trying to enjoy some good ol Television. The Babadook can enter the TV and watch you..and stand there.. menacingly!

Teleportation

Omg hi Babadook! Aww bye Babadook.

Corruption/Puppetry

If you fall to your darkest thoughts and let Grief take control, the Babadook will take control of you and make you do…unspeakable things.

Telekinesis

Why is this so fucking goofy? Anyways yeah the Babadook can just force you to be whooshed away and begone.

Support

The Look-See

Helpers

The Look-See throughout the years has followers that help some work for him. Mostly, he gets insane people and makes them create the pages as mentioned before, or help kill people for the Look-See,all that killing does get pretty tiring!

The Babadook

Victims

Whenever the Babadook takes control of those who can't let go of their grief, they serve the Babadook and are controlled by his corruption. The individuals corrupted by Babadook become stronger, more agile, and become more bloodlusted.

Resistances

The Look-See

  • Pain Manipulation - no matter how many times you may try and harm the Look-See, he will not go down. He won't even notice the pain.

The Babadook

Actions

The Look-See

Overall

  • Has consistently killed most of his victims without trouble (unlike those other guys.)

  • Basically the Iron Man of the Crypt TV universe

  • He's gone up and even won against monsters in the save universe

  • Fought Michael Myers????

Strength

Speed

Durability

The Babadook

Overall

  • Is the official gay Icon and mascot of pride month

  • Almost successfully made Amelia go off the deep end

  • Probably one of the only horror movie monsters that wasn't truly defeated

  • Won a rap battle against Freddy Krueger and Ellen DeGeneres

Strength

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

The Look-See

While the Look-See is a very powerful creature, he does have some rules. If you do not have anything to release, then he cannot kill you. Yes if there's no reason to actually kill you then he won't, like with a man who felt no guilt or remorse about killing a man or watching his partners he killed, the Look-See let him live simply because he had nothing to release. This rule will only be broken if you get in his way of a killing, otherwise even if you attack him he can let you go, just don't get in the Look-See's way. (OMG James A. Janisse hiiii)

The Babadook

The Babadook may be unkillable, however he's only as powerful as you make him. If you constantly deny his existence, let him stay in your head, and don't act upon his existence, then he'll only grow Stronger. But if you stand against him and don't let him overcome you or let him get in your head, then he'll become weakened. But this isn't defeating him, he'll still constantly stay with you and try to attack you, and he's said before he can only choose to leave you alone. The solution is simply learning to live with the Babadook and control how you respond to these emotions.

Before the verdict

Look-See vs Micheal Myers??

Akchtually! That's not canon!!!

Verdict

Now this is a pretty simple debate to go over so no rush in this! This matchup is pretty cool and the psychological themes you can go for in the fight is pretty cool ngl. And the overall aesthetic is very different from other horror matchups since It's mostly eerie and mysterious in nature. And of course the messages and themes you can have in a fight between these creatures would make for some very interesting scenes. I wouldn't say it's one of the best matchups ever but it's interesting to say the least. But enough chit chat, let's go into it…

Experience/Skill

Now The Look-See has definitely been around longer than the Babadook. He's definitely more skilled overall than the Babadook since he's the only one who's dealt with monsters like himself, meanwhile the Babadook has only dealt with vulnerable humans such as Amelia and her son. So Look-See would definitely take overall Experience/Skill. However Babadook has his own advantages, and that's his knowledge of his victims and his manipulation. The Look-See isn't a mindless being, we've seen that he does know who and who not to kill, and we've even seen the fact he'll spare those who survive his attacks and sometimes even children. The Babadook being a being that can dwell into the minds of his victims means he can get into the psyche of the Look-See, not to mention he'd be capable of overwhelming the Look-See’s consciousness because of the Babadooks nature of being a mental being to a physical embodiment. But even though the Babadook has these advantages, we're looking for overall Skill and Experience. So while the Babadook has his own impressive merits, this category goes to THE LOOK-SEE

Arsenal/Equipment

So the Look-See generally does have more equipment than the Babadook, he can constantly summon his pages that can warn his victims and his pocket watch can create an entirely new Look-See, we however don't know the process of doing that other than the theory of it being the same ritual that possibly created the Look-See. The Babadook book does have some mysterious power behind it. Just like the Babadook himself, it looks into the mind of the victim and foretells the possible future and fate of said person. It's a pretty helpful thing to have overall since the Babadook would have personal knowledge on the Look-See and this would be some form of Precognition. Surprisingly this category shifts when you bring in their victims, the Look-See’s helpers have come with their own defenses especially when they fight back. But the Babadooks victims like Amelia not only have a strength/agility boost, they get more access to weapons such as Knives, bats, and basic household weapons. And they become way more bloodlusted than any of the Look-See’s helpers do. So surprisingly, this category goes to THE BABADOOK

Abilities/Powers

Both the Look-See and the Babadook have many powerful abilities that can bounce off the other. Telekinesis, Puppetry, Illusions, teleportation you name it. The Look-See will be able to constantly sense where the Babadook is thanks to his Clairvoyance, and he's definitely more physically capable because of his Crypt Physiology. However Physicality doesn't matter when the Babadook can exist even inside the mind, making himself intangible or merely a dream. It'll be way harder for the Look-See to truly use his abilities on the Babadook, meanwhile The Babadook can constantly haunt the Look-See’s mind and stay in his headspace. And if that doesn't work, he can always corrupt or control the Look-See into being his demonic puppet, even making the Look-See just commit a LowTierGod. The Look-See does have powerful abilities, but the Babadook is a lot more mental in nature, and can always find a way to work around everything the Look-See throws at him. Cuz even if the Look-See physically damaged the Babadook, he won't be able to kill him permanently. This Category goes to THE BABADOOK

Scaling/Stats

For the final category, at first this was pretty interesting. Both have somewhat superhuman speeds, the Look-See can catch up to grown adults running for their life and he can catch up with other monsters known for chasing down their victims. The Babadook has showcased he can move very quickly like when he quickly traveled down the stairs and entered the basement in only a couple of seconds. Both have also shown that they can exit eyesight in a second, and normal humans can't track him. However, only the Look-See is stated to be faster than the blink of an eye, and has consistently shown that he can back up this statement. So the Look-See would be faster than the Babadook.

As for AP, we have seen that they're above human strength. The Look-See can rip people's heads off, fold people in half, rip people's arms off, and even combat monsters who could do the same. Babadook on the other hand could physically shake a whole bed, kick a door open and escape from some tight rope (when he corrupted Amelia.) So it would seem the Look-See would take physical strength, however while Look-See is strong enough to rip a man in half, the Babadooks mere presence can not only shake a whole room, he was able to create cracks in the walls and shatter glass and furniture. So while the Look-See would seemingly take physical strength, the Babadook would be much stronger than the Look-See. So the speed Category would go to THE LOOK-SEE. And the AP category would go to THE BABADOOK.

Summary

The Look-See

Advantages

  •  More experienced and overall more skilled than the Babadook

  • Ability to spawn another Look-See would give him numbers

  • Although he already had numbers with his little helpers

  • Won't be as emotionally vulnerable to the Babadook as his other victims

  • Faster and more likely to kill on sight than wait to kill

  • James A Janisse

Disadvantages

  • Would be normally weaker than the Babadook

  • Has no way to resist the Babadooks mental corruption

  • Has nothing against the Babadook invading his mind

  • Can't actually kill the Babadook

  • When TF was the last original CryptTV story?

The Babadook

Advantages

  •  Overall stronger and more powerful than the Look-See

  • His Physiology makes it so the Look-See can't kill him permanently

  • Can overwhelm the Look-See by staying inside his mental space

  • Can inevitably corrupt and make the Look-See become his puppet

  • Precognition and knowledge of his victims means he knows the possible weaknesses of the Look-See

  • Still beat Ellen DeGeneres in a rap battle..

Disadvantages

  • Would be normally slower than the Look-See

  • Would get outnumbered by the Look-See

  • More likely to play with his food than instantly kill the Look-See

  • Less experienced and skilled overall than the Look-See

  • Screaming child..

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Look-See is faster, more experienced and skilled than the Babadook, and has dealt with monsters like the Babadook. He's more likely to instantly just go for kill and shred the Babadook to pieces. And with his numbers yes he'd be capable of just ripping apart the Babadook, if he was able to. Not only is the Babadook stronger to where the Look-See can't harm him, he also won't be able to be hurt in general. Considering the Babadook can be intangible and just exist in the Look-See’s mental space, then it'll be impossible for the Look-See to actually harm him. Not to mention nothing will stop the Look-See from just being corrupted and have his body be taken over by the Babadook, along with his helpers. And of course he has overall better abilities than can fuck over the Look-See like his book precognition and his ability to look into the Look-See’s psyche. The only one in the fight who truly loses is the guy just tryna have a relaxing day in his couch after losing his dog, dude is really gonna be scared shitless the next couple of weeks. Nonetheless, while the Babadook took the win in our book, we couldn't see a way for the Look-See to be our victor.

The Babadook has escaped this deadly fate and is tonight's winner

The Look-See on the other hand, has been sentenced to Death By Blog

THE WINNER IS THE BABADOOK
